Menopause and insomnia may make women age faster, revealed a dual study. The dual research, published in the journal proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Biological psychiatry, suggested that menopause and insomnia can increase risk for ageing-related diseases and earlier death in women. "In the women we studied, those reporting symptoms such as resless sleep, waking repeatedly at night, having difficulty falling asleep and waking too early in the morning, tended to be older f=biologically than women of similar chronological age who reported on symptoms, said Judith carroll, assistant professor, University of california. For their research, both used a "biological clock" developed by the researcher , which has become a widely used method for tracking epigenetic shift in the genome . foe the first study on menopause, the researchers tracked methylation, a chemical biomarker linked to ageing , to analyse DNA samples from more than 3100 women, including the women's health initiative (WHI) a major 15 year research programme that addressed the most common causes of death, disability and poor quality of life in postmenopausal women . they measured the biological age of cells from blood, saliva and inside the cheek, to explore the relationship between each woman's chronological age and her body's biological age . the researchers discovered that menopause speeds up cellular ageing by an average of 6% . on average, the younger a woman is when she enters menopause, the faster her blood ages . this is significant because a person's blood may mirror what is happening in other parts of the body and this could have implications for death and disease risk. in the second study on sleep, the researchers drew their data from more than 2000 women in the WHI using the nearly 2 years older biologically than women of the same chronological age with no insomnia symptoms.

replacing animal fats in your diet with a variety of liquid vegetable oils can help you live longer , as researchrs have confirmed that higher consumption of saturated and trans-fats is linked with higher mortality . in large study population that included 126,233 participants who were followed for more than three decades, researchers found that replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats conferred substantial health benefits . the study suggests that replacing saturated fats like butter , lard and fat in meat with unsaturated fats from plant-based foods like olive oil, canola oil and soybean oil can confer substantial health benefits. ''there has been widespread confusion in the biomedical in the biomedical community and the general public in the last couple of years about the health effects of specific types of fat in the diet, ''said dong wang, doctoral candidate at harvard T.H. chan school of public health and lead author of the author of the study . trans-fats had the most siginficant adverse on health . every 2% higher intake of trans-fat was associated with a 16% higher chance of premature death during the study period . higher consumption of fats was also liked with greater mortality risk . conversely, intake of high amounts of unsaturated fats, both polyunsaturated and monounsaturated , was associated with between 11% and 19% lower overall mortality compared with the same number of calories from carbohydrates . the study was published online in the journal 'JAMA internal medicine'. the health effects of specific types of fats depended on what people were replacing them with , the researchers found . people who replaced saturated fats with carbohydrates had only slightly lower mortality risk. among the polyunsaturated fats , both omega-6 (found in most plant oils) and omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish and canola oils) were associated with lower risk of premature death . ''our study shows the importance of eliminating trans-fat and replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats, including animal both omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. in practice, this can be achieved by replacing animal fats with a variety of liquid vegetable oils,'' concluded frank hu, professor at the harvard medical school.
